Hullabalooza.
May. 16th, 2005 12:19 pmOk, I remembered the story that I forgot about last week. When I was walking around during lunch on wednesday, right outside of "Nuts to You" on 20th street, there was a red beemer surrounded by a couple of cop cars. I arced my neck like everyone else trying to see what was going on, and in side of that dirty ass nice beemer, sitting on the back seat was a plastic bag with five neatly wrapped stacks of 20 dollar bills. It was wicked cool. Best guess is that it had to be at least 10-15K. That's the most money I've ever seen in person in cash.
Anyway, weekend was fun. Friday night was Micah's brother's last night in town, so we cooked food and got wicked drunk and watched movies. I made a crazy ass pie, which I barely remember making because I was really drunk. You should have seen the mess in the kitchen. It was heroic. Our cooking theme for the week was to use what we had, which wasn't a whole helluva lot. The pie was no exception. It was a standard (homemade) pie crust, with a small small amount of fruit filling... we didn't have much in the way of fresh fruit, so I made compote of canned mandarin orange slices and the flesh of two lemons. Woohoo! Cooked crust, added filling, added crumb topping on top of the fruit, cooked a bit longer, added meringue on top of crumb topping and cooked a bit longer. Have a big clear window and a bright light in the oven is so cool. I sat and watched the meringue brown. It was so much more exciting than watching paint peel. But I was drunk. So shut up. Anyway, pie good.
Saturday I ran errands, and bought more window planters and herbs. I am now growing parsley, genovese basil, cinnamon basil, chives, greek oregano, peppermint, thyme, jalapeno's, and habanero's... and I have a spot reserved for sage and rosemary. Neeeed sage.
Saturday night I drove up to NYC for a charity BBQ I had the next morning. Sunday, went to the BBQ (duh). It was fun. We ate lots of food and played with some mentally challenged people. It was originally supposed to be children, but since their parents were all orthodox jews, and they refused to allow mentally handicapped (or any other) children to play together co-ed, we had only over 21 ummm... tards. I'm sorry, mentally handicapped is way too fucking long. Tards it is! Come up with a short word that's PC and I'll use it. Maybe. Oh, and I think those orthodox parents are tards too. Anyway, the barbie was fun, and at the end, they had a grill that they couldn't take back with them, so I took it. Score! I hung out for a few more hours with Elisa, which was fun. Wandered around a street fair on amsterdam ave... failed to meet up with my brother... went home.
Oh, and when I woke up this morning and got in the shower, as soon as my hair got wet, I said to myself "something smells like barbecue!"... I wonder what...
