Rendell is a Baaaaaad Motha-
Nov. 7th, 2005 11:51 am(note: this entry is sorta, kinda, unofficially backdated. It only deals with SEPTA stuff. I didn't actually backdate it because I want it to actually appear on friends lists and such... plus, it deals slightly with stuff that happened today)
Ok, in case you don't live in philly, SEPTA, our gloriously inefficient subway / bus system went on strike a week ago. And as horrendous as the system is, you can't truly appreciate how essential it is until it's gone. The last time SEPTA went on strike, was in 1998, and I was in high school, drove everywhere, and didn't see what all the fuss was about. That time they were on strike for 44 days. Boy, am I glad this strike didn't last that long. It ended last night with an all night negotiation session with the bad-ass himself, Gov. "Fast Eddie" Rendell. Goddamn I love that man.
Anyway, since I was without septa last week, I finally had to get off my lazy ass, pump up the tires, and bike to work. And I must say. Fuck! I am so out of shape it's scary. On the plus side, having no other option other than biking or walking to work made me bike to work three days last week (once I walked because I knew I was going to be drunk after work, and once I drove because I was a dumbass). I'm going to try and keep biking to work as long as the weather permits. I want to getback into shape.
Oh, also, I got karma'd again last week! Tuesday, the first time I biked into work, Yonah linked to an old post in my blog about some bikers who pissed me off, and when she did, some of her biker (bicyclist) friends commented on the post and took offense with some the jokes we were making. I, being me, threw gasoline on the fire by being me and countering their offense by saying more offensive things. Then, on the bike ride home, my chain split open on walnut street and I had to veer onto the sidewalk pretty much out of control so as not to get hit by cars. It sucked... I guess it wasn't that bad though, I walked my bike a few blocks away to breakaway bikes, got a new chain and some toe stirrups, and was on my way a half hour later.
And in case anyone is curious, I did bike to work today, even though I heard on the radio that the strike was over. Go me!
