Ok, so it's been a week or two, and a lot of stuff happened. Last tuesday, after work I packed up my stuff and drove up to boston to start my vacation. The drive up was nuts, because I ended up chasing the snow storm that had passed through philly that morning. And let me tell you, connecticut does not know how to properly salt or plow it's roads. That was some of the hardest driving conditions I've ever seen. Thankfully, when I got onto the Mass Pike it was done right. It was also the slowest trip to boston I've ever had, except for the time we decided to drive down for thanksgiving. I got into the old apartment at 1:30 am. At 7 the next morning, we were up and getting ready to leave. We got the car packed by about 8:30, and hit up Clear Flour bakery for breakfast. I absolutely love that place. It's one of the main things I miss from boston. As alon put it, the bread there is so good that you don't mind eating it as a meal with nothing on it. Anyway, other than a mild problem with almost running out of gas, and running out of washer fluid for the third time in two days, the drive up to okemo was uneventful. We made it to the mountain by 12:30, and the skiing began.

I won't bore you with the details, but basically, I spent the next five days skiing, cooking, watching movies and sleeping. It was awesome. Also, it was great to be back in the kitchen with Alon. We work together well in there. We made a bunch of awesome foods, and sadly, I again forgot to take any pictures. Melissa and her brother were already at the mountain when we got there, and Jess, Maxim, Tamar, and Bec came up on friday.

Some of the fun things cooked were as follows though... in case you are curious.

Gnudi Al la fiorentino (ricotta and spinach dumplings in a butter/oil sauce served with sage leaves and balsamic vinegar.)
Fresh rosemary pesto marinated chicken breasts
Southern Comfort chocolate sponge cake
Red grapes and grape tomatoes sauteed with blush sweet wine.
Beef roast slow cooked in rice, tomatoes and caramelized onions
Cassoullet (french country stew with beans, Dark meat chicken, sausage, veggies and spices. My personal favorite)

Anyway, we left sunday morning, and I drove Melissa and her brother down to fabulous newark airport. It was nice to have company for once on a long ride. After I dropped them off, I drove to my dad's, then went to dinner at my mother's. At dinner, my stepfather offered me an extra ticket he had to the chamber orchestra for the next night. So monday, I went with him to the kimmel center, which is an astoundingly beautiful building. We were in the smaller hall, which was amazing, but from what I've seen, the verizon hall is also breathtaking. Anyone want to go to the orchestra? I want to see the hall. And... you know... the orchestra.

Wow... almost caught up.

Last night was St Patricks day. And though none of us are Irish, a bunch of work folk and I went out ot the Nodding Head for beer and food. We also decided that we didn't want to pay a ton of money, and we wanted to be rip roaring drunk. So we went to the liquor store beforehand and picked up a bottle of Bushmills. We then walked three blocks to the bar. On the way, four of us polished off the entire bottle of whiskey. Nothing like brownbagging hard liquor. It's so much fun. We sat around at the bar eating food and drinking awesome beer, then went to our respective homes to collapse. Now I'm here. Writing this entry.
