Until I started working, I had no appreciation for 3 day weekends. Given that I spent the last few years of my college career with 4 day weekends every weekend, the appeal of one extra day didn't seem all that great. I never really did much with my weeks, so there wasn't anything to take a break from. Now that I'm working, it's a whole different story. All of the sudden, that extra day was like manna from heaven. So what did I do with that time? Well, not a whole lot. Which is exactly what I needed.

I had a calm dinner with my roommate (Lyle) and a friend of ours, Josh, who will be henceforth known as Shelton, because that's his nickname, and because of the confusing number of Josh's involved in my life. We had a similarly relaxed lunch the next day. Afterward, I went to Microcenter to make use of a coupon I had before it expired. Using said coupon, I bought super cheap Blank DVD-R's which I spend the whole weekend trying to get to work. I found out that my burner is finicky and doesn't like to burn all media at all speeds. So I can only burn them at 2x instead of 4x. BOOOOOOO! Anyway, I went over to Anna's place that night and got good and wasted. Danielle had just moved out, so she, Anna and I relaxed and watched Punch Drunk Love. It was great. It was like a shorter, more comprehendible Magnolia. Like Magnolia, it was beautifully filmed, and brilliantly acted. And at times, confoundingly weird. I would go into more detail, but I really don't feel like it at the moment. Ask me if you really care.

Anyway, sunday I set out to do nothing. I was mostly successful. Josh (JR) and Terri came in from out of town, so Lyle, Shelton, JR, Terri, and I went out for burgers. MMMmmmmm... Pastrami burgers.... sooo goood. Anyway, Das dropped by during the dinner, so it was like a crazy old times reunion. Afterward, we all headed back to our apartment and watched Lost in Translation. Supremely good, as many others have pointed out already. Again, if you actually want to hear my opinion/discuss it with me, feel free to e-mail, call, or IM me.

Monday was godly. Aside from not being at work, which absolutely kicked ass, Lyle and I headed down to the Guitar Center Crazy deals day in honor of our expired troops. God only knows why Commemorating our troops requires us to buy things at extreme discounts, but that is beside the point. The point is, that I bought a kick ass modeling amp. The Vox AD60VT, for those who care. I had been planning on going into the store to look at that amp, and possibly the Fender Cyber Champ, figuring I would buy one as soon as I sold my oversized, overpriced old one (Marshall VS100R head + cab $500 for anyone who wants it). As I looked around, and checked out the discounts on the master price list (apparently they were too lazy to relabel everything that was on sale), I noticed that the AD60VT was listed on the price list for $299! Since it normally goes for $799, I immediately grabbed a guitar (52 Tele reissue... oooooh so sweet), and planted my butt at that amp, refusing to let anyone even touch it until I decided whether or not to buy it. In the end, it was too good a deal to pass on, so I took it home with me. The footswitch was even on sale with it! Score! After I got my baby home, I spend the next several hours playing around with it. I don't think I've learned half of what it can do yet, but it definitely kicks ass. In the end, I failed to really do anything else with my day. I played guitar and burned DVD's and watched the Stanley cup finals and ate pizza. What more could you possibly ask for in a day?

Mmmmm.... lunch time.

A funny story about Magnolia. Back when I was living with Vishwa C., Hindu deity of poor personal hygeine, or rather, when I was moving out, I found a copy of Magnolia that had been left behind the couch. It had clearly been rented from the local vid shop and I figured Vishwa C. was a right bastard so I would just purloin the copy and watch it myself. Didn't work, I couldn't sit through it. Not important. When I went to return it to the video store, I found out that not only was it about 4 months (!) late, but that it had been taken out on somebody other than Vishwa C's credit card. What kind of person has a friend take out a movie and then imperil said friends credit rating by never returning the movie?!?!?

Anyway.

I liked Punch Drunk Love. I loved Lost in Translation. SANTORI TIME-U!!!!

Good score on the amp.

Obviously, there is no Memorial Day here (they have ANZAC day instead, which is in March and commemorates them getting thier asses whooped at Gallipoli) but they do have off for the Queen's birthday. Go fig.

I'll tell you just what kind of person takes out a movie and then imperils someone else's account by failing to return it within several weeks or months. SAM MALISSA!!!!!!!!
I love the bastard but every couple months I get a random letter from video library in West Philly informing me that strange movies of the Asian persuasion, such as Barefoot Gen, are in my posession and that the cost of replacing aforementioned movies will be charged to my account if I don't return them 7 days ago. The fact that these threats are mailed to my parents' house only compounds the issue by relieving the notice of its timeliness, because the 'rents don't bother to tell me that I have a letter until I go see them, which takes place rather infrequently - well not now that I live down the hall from them, but I'm talking about last month. Then of course I threaten Sam's life, maybe break a household appliance or a punch a hole in the wall, and everything goes back to normal. Did I mention he owes me over $600?
I'm done.
